A vigorous, vining plant with trailing or climbing stems that can easily reach lengths of 6–12 feet or more.
Mature width
The central plant is compact, while its vines will spread to cover a trellis or cascade from a hanging basket.
Spacing
Best grown in a hanging basket to allow its vines to trail, or on a trellis for it to climb.
Evergreen/Deciduous
Evergreen
Foliage
Features thick, waxy, lance-shaped leaves in a deep, rich green, often covered in irregular silvery-white or pinkish speckles ('splash'). In high light, new leaves and stems can take on a beautiful, deep purple hue.
Flowering Period & Fruit
Once mature, it produces beautiful, ball-shaped clusters of fuzzy, star-shaped, deep burgundy or reddish-pink flowers. The blooms are highly fragrant, especially in the evening.
Sun Tolerance
Prefers bright, indirect light. A spot with some gentle morning or late afternoon sun can encourage flowering.
Maintenance
Easy. A very drought-tolerant, succulent-like plant. Water thoroughly only when the soil has dried out completely. It prefers to be pot-bound, which encourages blooming. Do not remove old flower spurs (peduncles), as new flowers will re-bloom from them.
Root System
An epiphytic root system that is very sensitive to rot. It requires a very chunky, airy, and fast-draining potting mix.
